The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U. S. is now accepting entries for its Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen youth scholarship competitions. The announcement comes just a week after the VFW's 2018 Legislative Conference concluded in Washington, D. C.where the top students from across the globe were St. Juvin Post 1336 VFW in partnership with the Coal City Middle School and the Coal City Public Library District is sponsoring the Patriots Pen essay competition for all Coal City Middle School Students, or in the case of home schooled students who reside within the Unit# 1 District boundary who are 11, 12, or 13 years of age on VFW members and other patriotic Americans dedicate millions of hours each year working to spread patriotism and honor our nation's heroes.
From volunteering at VA hospitals and visiting class rooms to youth scholarships and recognizing teachers and scouts, the VFW is in the community.

PATRIOTS PEN. Each year more than 125, 000 students in grades 68 enter the VFWs Patriots Pen youth essay contest. The firstplace winner from each state competes for national awards totaling 50, 000, with each firstplace state winner receiving a minimum of 500 at the national level. The American History Essay Contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation's great history and learn about history in a new light.
